For the longest time, I was scared to have a child because I thought that if the kid didn’t come out okay, I wouldn’t be able to handle it.

Now that I have a seemingly completely normal baby boy, I wonder what I did right to deserve a child so beautiful. In some ways I’m not quite sure if I deserve it or not.

After much personal debate, I suppose that I’m not that bad of a guy, or maybe my thoughts are worse than my actions.

So I wonder how bad his actions will be, and worse yet, his thoughts. I’m truly in love with this little guy more than I ever really knew or expected. And even though he is less than a week old, he is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Your mom and I are currently in our 8th month with you, and are very anxious for your arrival. We have been working on getting a name for you that you will enjoy, and that can be said in English & Spanish. You know, just in case Mexico takes over the world, and because in a lesser extent it is part of your heritage… Anyways, for a long time I didn’t want to have kids. I always thought of myself as a solo act, and not much of a family man. Then I met your sister, Isabel, and she changed my mind. There is something exciting about being around someone who is amazed by everything. It gives me great hope, and happiness to be around Isabel full time. So in a way, I think you should thank your sister, no matter what your relationship is with her, for your being here. I know she is a handful at times, but I probably wouldn’t have had you at this time in my life without her being around.

I like to sit and wonder what you are going to become, how you are going to act. What you are going to accomplish, and I find myself overjoyed at the fact that you are around… Even if you still are inside your mom now. I see you on the monitor, I feel you as you kick, I hear you on the heartbeat monitor. Every time with excitement, and amazement. I can’t wait to teach you how to ride your bike, how to tie your shoes, to take you camping, or how to be a better man than I ever was. It feels weird saying that, but I want to be proud of who you are. I can’t wait to see you happy in life, and to follow your dreams.

With that said, I trust that no matter what happens within our family. I’ll always be here for you. I’ll always have an open ear, and an open mind. I know that you will probably be persuaded by your peers to do things that I don’t approve of, and I understand. I know that there are times in life where you make a mistake without knowing it is a mistake, and I hope to help you find a way to make it right. I’m not giving you permission to go completely crazy, but just know that I’ll stand by you any way I can. Even if we disagree. And that everyone always say’s at some point in their life, I wish I knew what I know now, when I was younger. I can’t help but love you even if it is just the idea of you for now, but I wait for you with open arms. An open mind, and an open heart.

With Love,

Your Father

Eric D. Sawyer

I apologize sir, if my laughing at what you said made you mad enough to raise your voice and say “Fuck You Eric!,” but I find it curious that when you preach to me about the quality of my commercial production. (In a rough draft mind you) That you are quite contradictory in saying that. Just a week ago you said to me, and other editors that: “It would be dumb for you to spend hours rendering a project, because that is not what we do….” …”You put things together as quickly as possible, because that is what we need.” I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have gotten mad…. I would have probably done the same. But……

I find it curious that over the past 6 years of working in the local TV industry, that I’m quite often the only person that cares about the quality of commercial production. When clients, Sales Executives, Sales Managers, and GM’s all want the product in the fastest possible way. I find myself being painted into a corner without hope of the paint drying anytime soon. I wish that I could care more about the quality of my production. But with that many people against you for so long, it is hard. I’ve actually grown numb to putting together crappy production. It used to upset me so much. I used to be so passionate about it. Now, on many occasions I imagine myself making a logo of a tv with a swirling pile of crap on top, and putting it on my business card. On the few occasions when I had just one person on my side, I’ve done extraordinary work with the equipment, and time provided.

Sunshine Landscaping:

Fashion Bug:

Ramon Ayala Concert:

Please, would somebody care about the quality of local commercial production without me trying to convince them for hours…. and hours…… and hours…. The worst part about putting all the time and effort into convincing Sales People that they should care about commercial production, is that every three months, They leave?

Again, I apologize that I laughed at you when you said I should be ashamed of a rough draft I put together for you sir, but I…. well, don’t see the paint drying. Nor do I see you setting me up to succeed, anytime soon.

I have hope that someday it will happen, but this company has in recent years: overworked me. Given me more responsibility every 6 months, with less resources. Told me once a year for the past 6 years that there will be a news product to promote within 6 months, still hasn’t happened yet. Given me employee of the quarter, and just a month later made me one of the only people this year who has not been given a raise, after making me take a furlough last year, and not giving me a raise then either……

I’m now in charge of promoting 4 networks, 2 websites, and doing commercial production with only one assistant. Now, to me, to put quality at the heart of the whole process, and actually make our station group succeed. We need at least one Digital Publisher (website guy) One person for English promotion, i.e. FOX, ABC CW. and One person to promote Telemundo. Along with myself to manage the group, and keep it organized. I don’t see that happening ever. So, sir I’d like to think that quality isn’t top of mind for you, nor has it ever been a priority. Especially, knowing that you’ve hired on more than one occasion at your previous employer. The worst commercial production producer in the whole southern united states; Richard Joselin. No offense Richard. Give me some credit, the station has been #1 in key areas for the past 6 years when I took over.

I have hope that my passion for helping businesses succeed will help change your mind on the quality of our local commercial production. Until then, I would like your help with motivation, and support with training the Account Executives to care about their clients future beyond the next paycheck.

Along with Subways $5 footlong, and $5 meal deal. Some people feel their tastes are out of the $5 scope. See not every sandwich is $5. If you get any of the premium subs, you will shell out at least $7 if not more for a combo. After eating at a local subway more than I should, I’ve found that the Spicy Italian is just as good if not better than some of the premium subs.

My Favorite combination I noticed is the Spicy Italian with Honey Wheat bread, Pepper Jack Cheese, Mayo, Deli-Mustard (Grey Pupón,) and a little bit of Jalepeños. They always add a whole heap of anything you say you want a little bit of. Which is okay, Take all the Jalepeños off if you want, and you will still be left with a nice flavor. You can add any combination of veggies, but I tell you this is the best recipe for a great sub. Sweet in some ways with a little spice. Plus, won’t go over your budget of $5.58. Well at least with Yuma Taxes. Try it, and let me know what you think.

Jimmy Kimmel does it again, after the Sarah Silverman song “I’m Fucking Matt Damon,” and retribution “I’m Fucking Ben Afflec.” Jimmy gets high caliber stars together to make amazingly funny vignettes. That altogether make the show great.

Handsome Mens Club, Jimmy Kimmel Live

So Jimmy Kimmel Live is new to Yuma. (ABC has only been here for about 3 years.) There is something about Jimmy, and his comedic genius that is just better than Jay Leno, and the close second Connan O’Brien. (if he still even has a show.) Definitely better than any other late night show. ABC really has it going great. Maybe it has more to do with the writers than Jimmy, but the show is the best…. As the previous, and following video demonstrate.

Man, the Jimmy Kimmel Live show is great, there is only one problem. My Girl doesn’t get to sleep much when I watch it.

I’ve used apple OSX since 10.0 at work, but in the same respect I grew up using windows as many of us did. Now I’m not exactly sure when OSX came onto the scene. It must have been since 2004 or so, and it was up against windows XP. Now without a doubt Windows XP was the best of the best when it came out. That said, when OSX came out, the sheer amazement I had in how beautiful the layout, the dock, the ease of use. I mean to uninstall something you throw it in the trash. No opening a specific program, no searching. You just throw it in the trash bin and hit empty trash. So very very poetic in a sense.

Against XP, OSX was a huge jump into the future when it was released. Now it seems Windows vista was an effort to copy mac OSX, and windows 7 was released as a fix to all the problems windows vista. Windows 7 is alot smaller in disk space than its predecessor, and is smaller than snow leopard. That doesn’t mean it will end up smaller after all the updates, all the service packs. Also, it has a snap window feature that snow leopard doesn’t have, but that is about the end of the features.

My favorite thing about OSX, is that it doesn’t have Viruses, or Spyware, or pop up crap. You almost never need to re-install the OS, and it is simply easy to use.

Take a look at System Restore and Time Machine side by side.

Windows Vista System Restore – The Same as Windows 7

Apple OSX Snow Leopard Time Machine (sorry about the kids voice)

There isn’t anything that I can think of that is better in any way about windows 7. Now that Snow Leopard is OSX’s 6th year in use, it is still 6 years ahead of Windows 7. Which is kind of ironic since the new windows is labeled 7.

Here is the Snow Leopard Expose

Here is the Windows 7 Copy

In my personal opinion, I hate using windows at my house, and wish I could afford the iMac, or Mac Book Pro. And that is the only problem with Apple, the cost is too high for those of us that don’t have a large disposable income. So, if you can afford a Mac, and are looking for a new computer, don’t hesitate. The pop up, and spam problems in windows will waste your time.

After using Bluehost for about two years now, I never knew how good it was. I’ve been helping out the YCFB with their website, which is hosted on westhost, and their back end control panel is from the 80′s. Their support is horrible, and their file manager is the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

UPDATE

As you can see by the comments below, I didn’t get anything resolved with Westhost, and their idiotic customer support. I since have sent another e-mail requesting the use of their new cPanel account. Now even though there is an upgrade to their new customers in the software that they use. Their customer support is horrid. I have never seen anything so bad, and would never refer anyone to their services.

So, use any other hosting service, bluehost has been good to me with support that I have counted on day or night. With chat that is quick, and easy. They also have easy to use GUI interfaces with Help Videos that answer almost any question you need answered. I have not used any other hosting service besides the two. If you find any host that is better, or if you have any advice on other host’s don’t be afraid to share.

Today, my 26th Birthday, I am feeling more and more like an old man. Not only because my lady tells me so every time I make funny noises getting off the couch (I have a Fractured Rib.) But, because I heard something on the radio about Nancy Kerrigan, the ex Olympic figure skating beat down girl. The announcer described something horrible happening to her or someone in her family. Then, he said that the event that included the beat down happened 18 years ago.

Up until recently I still thought of 18 years as a long time. Now I realize that time has flown by even faster than previously realized. to say that 18 years ago I wasn’t in a diaper is a big deal to me. I value my youthfulness, and hope that next time I get a chance to say something to you I’m not talking about something that happened 30 years ago. Man do I feel old. 26 years is a long time.

Now that 18 years ago feels like yesterday, but in all reality wasn’t. I have come to realize that with growing older, I’ve come to realize that some things that were so much more important to me in the past, aren’t anymore. I enjoy watching my bonus daughter get excited over the simplest things. I find that sometimes hearing or seeing others experience things that I would have loved to do previously, is no longer a bore, but a benefit. I notice that while my love is baking my first bun in her oven that things are going better than I once thought. Life isn’t as you dream it to be, but if you step back and look at the painting you have mounted on the wall in front of you. You will notice that it really isn’t all that bad. Might be Jackson Pollock instead of Picasso, but you might not have noticed that you like Jackson Pollock until you stopped to take a look.

So OfficeLive, as microsoft so irrelevantly named their free website hosting service. Is a hell to work with. On a tight deadline with a cheap client, I have been denied access to the Windows live design page due to a Windows Office Live problem. I’m guessing it is because they are running this thing on windows servers, which are crashing. In true Microsoft Windows product nature, I’m now two days behind schedule due to a microsoft let down. I think the only thing that Microsoft has ever done correctly is XBOX, and they bought that from Sega? Can they do anything right, or is there a major problem with seattle’s crappy company? Oh yeah, if they named it Live, it should be live. I mean an hour of down time is understandable, but two days is ridiculus.

If you know of any other “Free” hosting services that wouldn’t ever be down for more than an hour, let me know.
